1. Making Rocks Fun for Kids: engaging youth activities!
The Syracuse Gem & Mineral Society has particularly well thought-out how to create space and a good spread of activities to engage children – not just so their parents can shop – but so that (maybe) they’ll develop a life-long passion for rocks! There’s Treasure Hunts, sluicing & digging for finds in the dirt, coloring, beading, and recreating of molecular structures! 3. Summer Show Season is ON: Sights in Syracuse!
Summer is in full swing – I’m so grateful that Syracuse, NY is part of my show circuit – very engaged rock club (see supporting video about their Youth Area) and good buyers: of smaller items like bracelets and carvings; up to some meaningful display pieces. Took me ‘only’ 6 hours to set up. And with minimum distraction by the lure of others’ booths, though I’ve fully checked out everyone’s offerings. 4. Perspective (some thoughts on life and the world)
All new bracelets are in – some of which will take us all the way to Tucson – most haven’t even been put out. But our planning is going well for Denver – UHaul, lodging, pallet shipping – only thing left is flights. And to finish selecting & packing what I’ll be bringing to that show. I have 3 weeks before my 3 August shows to prepare and finalize.
Meanwhile, I understand the National Education Association (of teachers) are severing ties with the Anti-Defamation League, expanding AntiSemitism in a whole new way, for those teaching our youth. Now there’s a plant that will yield regrettable flowers! I hesitate to draw attention to these things, but someone (anyone?) has to. This country is not what it was, in so many ways. And while others lament ICE and the “Big Beautiful Bill” – all worthy of scrutiny – these other developments (or devolvements) have me not unreasonably concerned.
